Migori: County Gov’t Unveils Modern Lactation And Creche Room In Migori Referral Hospital

To combat the high rate of child mortality in the area, the Migori County government established a contemporary lactation and creche facility.

Staffs and nursing mothers admitted to Migori Level Four Hospital will be encouraged to receive six months of exclusive feeding from the two facilities housed within the Migori County Referral Hospital.

Agnes Ochilo, the governor’s spouse, stated that women who would use the two facilities will also be taught adequate feeding techniques for their children in order to prevent child malnutrition. One of the things causing the high rate of child mortality in Migori County is malnutrition.

According to Mrs. Ochilo, a lactation room is a crucial resource that hospitals and other establishments ought to provide in order to provide nursing moms with a place to nurse babies.

She has urged women to make sure their kids are breastfed for six months and to make sure they are eating a healthy diet.

Julius Awuor Nyerere, the county executive for the health department, echoed her sentiments when he stated that many children in Migori are still undernourished.

According to Nyerere, the agency is working on creating the “Malezi bora” nutritional guidelines. According to him, breastfeeding rooms would be installed at each of the county’s sub-county hospitals.

In Migori County, 73 out of 1000 live births are not celebrating their fifth year, according to data from the ministry of health.
